The Denman Island Local Trust Committee has identified marine environmental protection as a Top Priority in their work program. A key issues of concern is “driving on the beach”, an activity which may negatively impact sensitive marine riparian habitat, vital to forage fish and a myriad of other species. In response to this concern, the Local Trust Committee is considering a land use regulation to prohibit driving in the W1, W3 and W4 zones. Notably, as fisheries are regulated by the federal government, the bylaw is not intended to restrict aquaculture operators’ access to their license areas.
Proposed Bylaw No. 225
