Ganges is the commercial, social, cultural and institutional heart of Salt Spring Island. With the goal of creating a local area plan to guide future development, ‘Ganges Village Planning’ is a priority for the Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee. In order to realize the longstanding community goal of a continuous harbourside walkway, the Local Trust Committee has focused the initial phase on completing the Ganges Harbourwalk.
PROJECT UPDATE: At its October 13, 2016 meeting the Local Trust Committee received a staff report updating them on issues related to the proposed rezoning of four upland properties abutting the route of the Ganges Harbourwalk. These issues included referral responses, advisory commission comments, OCP consistency and ongoing conversations with impacted property owners. The meeting also provided an opportunity for the LTC to discuss the formation of a steering committee for the harbourwalk project with the Capital Regional District’s Salt Spring Island senior manager. The LTC passed two resolutions at the meeting, one to include the entire proposed Commercial 7 (C7) zone in Development Permit Area 1, and one to rescind an earlier resolution finding proposed Bylaw 491 to be consistent with the Islands Trust Policy Statement.
Proposed Bylaw No. 491
