Due to the limited supply of water in the Trust Area, groundwater quality and quantity issues have been of significant concern to the Islands Trust Council for many years.
In 2016, significant number of islanders (41%) said they sometimes worry about their household running out of fresh water. (State-of-the-Islands: Interim Report).
Islands Trust is committed to protecting the quality and quantity of water resources through advocacy and education.
This summer, Islands Trust is hosting a series of workshops to share information on wells and their impacts on groundwater, and to promote water conservation. Our partners include the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources Operations, Vancouver Island Health Authority and Vancouver Coastal Health.
You are welcome to attend these free workshops. Please check this site often for updates to workshop details.
