The Mayne Island Local Trust Area is the habitat of several at-risk species including the Killer Whale, Purple Martin, Peregrine Falcon and a Glass Sponge Reef. The Purple Martin arrives each spring after a long migration from south east Brazil and is the largest swallow breed in North America.
