September 2018 l Housing Needs Assessment Report

Housing needs assessments are the first step a community can take to understand the gap(s) between the housing needs of its people and the availability of suitable housing to meet that need. The Southern Region Housing Needs Assessment is available here.

South Pender Island Community Heritage Register

At its June 12, 2018 meeting, the Local Trust Committee (LTC) established a new Community Heritage Register for South Pender Island.  At that meeting, the LTC made the first entry to the new register: the Church of the Good Shepherd at 8978 Gowlland Point Road.  Click here to learn more about the project and to read the Statement of Significance for the Church of the Good Shepherd.

September 4, 2018 | LTC Public Hearing for Bylaw 115

The South Pender LTC will be holding a public hearing regarding Bylaw No. 115 at 10am on Tuesday September 4, 2018 at the South Pender Fire Hall, 8961 Gowland Point Road. Public submissions will be open until 4:30pm, August 31, 2018.  In general terms, Bylaw No. 115 would amend the Official Community Plan (OCP) to update policies about pedestrian and cycling infrastructure on the island. Please see the Public Hearing Notice for details. 

June 12, 2018 | Community Information Meeting

The Local Trust Committee will hold a community information meeting within its regular business meeting to provide information and hear feedback on proposed Bylaw No. 115. In general terms, Bylaw No. 115 would amend the Official Community Plan (OCP) to update policies about pedestrian and cycling infrastructure on the island.  The Community Information Meeting will be a Town Hall style opportunity for community members to ask questions, provide comments, and hear what others have to say.

February 20, 2018 | LTC Business Meeting Highlights

The LTC directed staff to develop, in coordination with the South Pender Historical Society, a Community Heritage Register including only the Church of the Good Shepherd. The LTC also directed staff to draft amendments to OCP schedules “D” and “H” to include pedestrian and cycling routes, and to draft supportive OCP policies for multi-modal trail development. There was discussion about development permit monitoring at Poets Cove Resort, and updates were given by both the Chair and Trustee McConchie on activities around freighter anchorages in Plumper Sound and the Trust Area more generally.

New!  Islands Trust Office for the Penders |  Planner Office Hours

The Islands Trust has new office space at the Driftwood Centre, co-located with the Capital Regional District.  Planners will be holding scheduled office hours twice a month. Contact staff to book an appointment.  Drop ins are welcome!
