Welcome to the Gabriola Island Local Trust Area

Gabriola Island Local Trust Area is located 6 km east of Nanaimo, BC and has a 2016 census population of 4033. The area includes over 20 other islands such as Mudge, DeCourcy, Entrance and the Flat Top Islands. Gabriola's beautiful and vibrant islands are home to some of the rarest ecosystems in British Columbia. The NEW 2020 Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee business meeting schedule is now available.  Come join your local trustees at their next business meeting to see what's being considered in your community. 


September 2019 | Gabriola Trustee Office Hours resume - Tuesday, September 24, 2019

Gabriola Island Trustees will resume office hours every Tuesday at the Islands Trust Northern Office, 700 North Road, effective September 24, 2019.  Office hours are held in the RDN office from 3-5pm with each trustee meeting with the public on alternate Tuesdays.  Appointments outside of regular office hours may be arranged by emailing the trustees.  Office dates for each trustee are shown below.

June 2018 | Secondary Suites Bylaw

On June 14, 2018, the Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee adopted Bylaws 292 (OCP) and 293 (LUB) after two years community consultation on Phase 1 of the Housing Options Review Project. More information about this project is available here.
