The Local Trust Committee invites all residents and property owners to learn about, and provide feedback on, the proposed Shoreline Development Permit Area (DPA) for Gambier Island. The draft Shoreline DPA has been informed by environmental best practices, input from the Gambier Advisory Planning Commission, and valuable engagement with Squamish Nation, to help better recognize and protect the island’s shoreline ecosystems, cultural values, and long-term resilience.
These meetings are an opportunity to learn why the Shoreline DPA is being proposed, understand how it could guide future shoreline development, ask questions, and share your thoughts directly with your elected Local Trust Committee members before any decisions are made. The same presentation is shared at each meeting, so you can attend the session that best fits your schedule.
Community Information Meetings
- Thursday, July 30, 2026, 10 to 11:30 a.m. — Online, via Zoom. This session will be recorded and available online.
- Tuesday, August 4, 2026, 3 to 4:30 p.m. — In person. Gambier Community Centre, 721 Andys Bay Road, Gambier Island, BC.

Online survey: Can’t make a meeting? An online public survey will be available from July 30 to August 31, 2026, to collect feedback on the draft Shoreline DPA proposal.
The Gambier Island Local Trust Committee is reviewing Gambier Island’s land use policies and regulations. The target areas for review in the Gambier Island Official Community Plan (OCP) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB) are:
- Archaeological and Cultural Heritage Protection – Consideration of policies and regulatory tools to include Heritage Conservation Area(s) and agreement with First Nations as they relate to land use on Gambier Island.
- Shoreline Protection and Access to Public Docks – Consideration of policies and regulatory tools to encourage protection of shoreline ecosystems and public use of community docks. To better protect shoreline ecosystems and best practices around supporting access to public docks.
- Forest Ecosystem Protection – Consideration of policies and regulatory tools to both encourage tree and forest ecosystems on public and private land and modernize protections.

First Nations Engagement
In 2023 the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee allocated capacity funding for Squamish Nation staff to engage with planning staff. An engagement summary report was presented to the Local Trust Committee in 2024 outlining the Nation’s priority recommendations that could inform amendments and updates to the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw.
