Work on the Salt Spring Island Official Community Plan (OCP) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB) Update project is continuing, with the next phase of the project now underway.
Project consultant McElhanney Ltd. completed its work on the project on March 31, 2026, delivering several draft materials to support the next phase of work, including technical review and policy analysis reports, draft vision and policy content, engagement summaries, and recommendations related to Land Use Bylaw alignment.
Over the coming months, staff will focus on:
- Developing a revised communications and engagement strategy
- Strengthening relationships and engagement with First Nations
- Working with the Project Advisory Planning Commission (PAPC) on the draft Vision and Guiding Principles section
- Preparing for additional public engagement and policy drafting during fall/winter 2026–2027
The project’s purpose remains to increase housing options and housing equity on Salt Spring Island in a manner that integrates First Nations interests, ecosystem integrity, and climate resilience, consistent with the Islands Trust Policy Statement.
The project remains active, and engagement findings and draft materials received to date will continue to inform the next phase of work.
Thank you to community members, First Nations partners, the PAPC, and all participants who have contributed to the process so far.
Updates and any upcoming engagement opportunities will continue to be posted on the Salt Spring Island OCP project webpage.
Thank you for your continued participation and interest.
