Temporary Use Permits (TUPs) for Residential Uses

Project Purpose

This project will amend the Salt Spring Island Official Community Plan to authorize the Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee to issue Temporary Use Permits (TUPs) for residential uses. It will also establish guidelines the Local Trust Committee can apply when considering issuance of TUPs for residential uses.

Bylaw No. 471 has been developed to implement the Local Trust Committee (LTC) objectives for this project.

Project Update: At its November 26, 2019 meeting, the LTC made significant amendments to Bylaw No. 471 and gave the bylaw second reading. The LTC directed that the bylaw be referred to the Salt Spring Island Advisory Planning Commission (APC) and a number of other community groups for review and comment. Additionally, the LTC requested staff to meet with the Salt Spring Housing Council about the proposed bylaw. The LTC also directed staff to organize a Community Information Meeting (CIM) on Bylaw No. 471. This CIM will take place in early 2020.
